I would love to take a weekend road trip to the town of Frankenmuth, Michigan! We would drive there, and stay at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. You can't miss it--as you come into town just go across the wooden covered bridge and you will soon see what looks like a miniature Bavarian castle nestled onto the riverbank.
After getting settled in our room, we might wander around the place for a bit. It's HUGE--seven acres! Very nice, very clean, and with great customer service. It's a great family destination, with an indoor waterpark with five indoor pools and three whirlpools. It's within easy walking distance from the downtown shopping area and has a wonderful view of the waterfront.
If you wander downtown, there is much to do and see! One of my family's favorite shops is Rau's Country Store. From the cigar store Indian on the front porch to the big wooden pickle barrel and all the bins of candy to chose from we have a ball! Tin advertising signs, dollhouse items, kitchen items and more are featured inside.
Another VERY popular activity in Frankenmuth is to have a family-style chicken dinner at either Zehnder's or the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. You'll enjoy platters of fried chicken, bowls of wonderful noodles, stolen bread, and all the fixins! You won't go away hungry, believe me!
There are many fudge shops, cheese shops, a flour mill, and gift shops throughout the town. You might also be interested in the Frankenmuth Museum, which will show you how the town was formed by early German settlers.
No one can go to Frankenmuth without making a stop at Bronners, the world's largest Christmas store. It's huge, and has what seems like thousands of decorated Christmas trees, all with different themes. Ornaments from around the world are available for purchase, along with free personalization on them. |
